How To Decorate A Bedroom With Glass Light Shades
The two places people like to spend time relaxing is in the den or in the bedroom. In the bedroom there is often a television and books for reading before one turns in for the night. Making it comfortable is therefore of paramount importance. Usually people would decorate it by adding traditional bedroom items like high quality comforters or a soft rug.
There is a very simple thing that many do not think about: the lighting of the room. A good light is not too harsh, not too intense, and not too “cold”. This means that it gives off colors in the natural spectrum as sunlight. Furthermore, a soft light gives everything in the room a certain gentleness. One of the ways to create all these effects is to use a good glass lamp shade.
Although glass lamp shades are going to require a little more money to buy than regular lamp shades, the benefits are worth it. Hand-made glass lamp shades require the skills of an artisan who knows both how to blow glass, shape it, and perhaps join it to a metal frame. On the other hand, one does not need to get a hand-made lamp shade. Buying a low-cost one at a furniture store can confer all the same benefits but for much cheaper.
There are many types of shades, two of which are called cylinder lamp shades and glass cone shades. They are named for obvious reasons (their shape). In the following we review three other kinds.
Tiffany lamp shades are famous throughout the U.S. and the world. They are the product of Louis Comfort Tiffany, whose creative forces gave rise to the style of lamp shades that bears his name today. His father was the same who started the famous jewelry store synonymous with quality. Tiffany was the boss of his own business. He took advantage of his position to innovate prolifically, using traditional in stained glass making and translating them to the new form. The lamp shades that bear his signature are well-known for brilliance and style. A century after his lamps first came out they remain highly imitated and reproduced.
The word torchiere evokes a standing light with just one bulb at the top. Frequently torchiere light shades can be found in areas in need of gentle lighting. The light shade has a broad cone-like profile with a highly shallow angle of opening. This permits it to spread the output of the bulb as much as possible, canonically toward the ceiling so light reflects off the walls. The diameters and colors are pretty diverse for upright lamp shades. Make sure the size is correct by measuring the top diameter, as well as the fitter width on the bottom.
A large number of designs are found for glass light shades. Amongst the most desirable ones are the hurricane glass shades and the gas glass shade. Hurricane shades are exemplified by an hour-glass profile that bulges in the waist and subsequently getting narrow into a thin neck. Due to its vase-like shape it is a highly fashionable piece of lighting. The traditional gas light shade hails us from Queen Victoria’s age of England. In that age when utility gas lamps initially came to be widespread, it gave impetus to societal changes to the European cultures.
